Clutter. Everyone has it but nobody sees their own clutter. When I walk into someone’s home that they love and have lived in for years and ask them to help me “tidy up” a bit, I often get an odd look. Personal items that mean so much to a homeowner often do not translate well to a potential buyer who wants to be able to imagine the home as their own.
A big place for this is a kitchen. When I capture a kitchen, what I want to convey is the idea that this kitchen can be yours. Whatever you want it to look like, it can! Nobody is living here right now, it is waiting for you to move in and make it your own!
You can help the photographer by…
- Take soaps, clothes and sponges away from the sink area
- De – clutter the bar or sitting area
- Take away dish racks
- Take away floor mats or throw rugs
- Take away spices from around the cooking area
- Take away any personal photos
- Take away any mis-matched appliances from counter tops
All of these things can be easily hidden in a drawer or cupboard for the duration of the session. Also, don’t put things back “in place” until the photographer is finished with the entire session. It is surprising what shows up in the background!
Even then, your photographer may take some more items out or re arrange things.
